Dr Free Gift & BOGO

Can I change the gift product's price to a non-zero amount? (Dr Free Gift, BOGO Buy X Get Y Shopify App)

APP SETUP

Thank you for choosing our Shopify app Dr. Free Gift! It provides both a simple setup for beginners and a robust set of features for creating more advanced incentive programs.

To modify a gift product’s price, simply open the Shopify Products Admin and edit the product as you would with any other item in your store. However, changing a gift product’s price from 0 to a non-zero amount comes with important consequences you should be aware of:

What Happens When You Change the Price?

  1. Active Goals Will Be Disabled
    • If the gift product is being used in active goals, the app will automatically disable those goals as a safety precaution.
    • If the price change was intentional, you can manually re-enable the goals. Once re-enabled, the app will no longer disable them.

  2. The Gift Is No Longer Free
    • A non-zero price means customers will now have to pay for the gift product in their cart.
    • Unless you’ve enabled the option for customers to decline gifts, they may be stuck with this item in their cart and unable to remove it.

Strategic Use of Non-Zero Gift Pricing

Some store owners, particularly in regions like India, use a small, non-zero price (e.g., $0.99) to reduce the risk of gift fraud. This deters customers who may attempt to exploit free gifts through hacking or other unauthorized means.

However, it’s important to note:

  • A non-free gift is less appealing to customers compared to a true free gift.
  • This strategy could result in lower conversion rates, as customers may be less motivated to complete their purchase.

While setting a non-zero price for gift products can prevent fraud, it may impact the effectiveness of your free gift incentives. Always weigh the benefits against the potential impact on your customer experience and sales conversions.
