If Shopify customer adds an additional discount at checkout and the goal is no longer reached, Will the gift be automatically removed?

APP SETUP

The Dr Free Gift, BOGO Buy X Get Y app cannot automatically remove gifts when additional discounts are applied at checkout. This is because the checkout process is entirely controlled by Shopify, and third-party apps (including ours) have no ability to modify orders or remove items during checkout. But there is a viable solution that we share down below.

Default Behavior

  • Gifts remain in cart even if new discounts would make the order ineligible
  • No automatic gift removal is possible during checkout
  • The checkout page and its discount field are controlled by Shopify

Available Solution

To prevent discount-related issues with gifts, we recommend using draft orders:

  • Enable draft orders in General Settings
  • This removes the discount field from Checkout when gifts are present
  • Prevents customers from adding discounts after receiving gifts
  • Provides the most secure way to maintain gift eligibility rules
