Does the free gift app work with subscription products or items?

The free gift app is not fully compatible with subscription products when draft orders are involved. Shopify does not support subscriptions for draft orders, which means that subscription products would be processed as single purchases instead of recurring orders. This can impact how the free gift is applied to your subscription items.

If you are using draft orders in your store, the only way to enable the free gift feature for subscription products is by turning off the “Draft Orders” option. This can be done under Settings > General Settings in your app Dr Free Gift, BOGO Buy X Get Y settings. However, please note that disabling draft orders comes with certain limitations, including the potential for gift fraud.

How does this affect subscription products?

Subscription-only Products: If the subscription product can only be purchased as a subscription, then it can be used as a requirement to trigger the free gift.
Multiple Purchase Options: If the subscription product has multiple purchase options (e.g., one-time purchase and subscription), the free gift will be applied regardless of whether the customer selects the subscription option or not.

Important Notes:

First Purchase Only: The free gift will only be added to new orders as a one-time purchase, not to recurring subscription orders. Customers will receive the free gift with their very first purchase, but the gift will not be included in subsequent recurring orders.
No Subscription Filters: Our app does not specifically filter or distinguish between subscription products and regular products, meaning the free gift will apply according to the rules mentioned above but will not be restricted solely to subscription-based purchases.
