The Dr Free Gift, BOGO Buy X Get Y app cannot automatically remove gifts when additional discounts are applied at checkout. This is because the checkout process is entirely controlled by Shopify, and third-party apps (including ours) have no ability to modify orders or remove items during checkout. But there is a viable solution that we share down below.
Default Behavior
- Gifts remain in cart even if new discounts would make the order ineligible
- No automatic gift removal is possible during checkout
- The checkout page and its discount field are controlled by Shopify
Available Solution
To prevent discount-related issues with gifts, we recommend using draft orders:
- Enable draft orders in General Settings
- This removes the discount field from Checkout when gifts are present
- Prevents customers from adding discounts after receiving gifts
- Provides the most secure way to maintain gift eligibility rules
